How we compare

The rules

  1. Every fact comes from the company's own product page, read on the date shown next to it. We do not use press coverage, third-party reviews or our own guesses.
  2. Prices are what the page showed that day. Sale prices are shown as sale prices with the list price crossed out. We do not predict future sales.
  3. Scores come only from the printed rules below, applied to the table's figures, the same way for every test. No stars, no editorial opinion, no “editor's pick”. Tests are ordered everywhere by scorecard total with every criterion counted, highest first, ties broken alphabetically. Today that puts ProsperK9, the owner's product, first; the scorecard shows exactly which points do that, and unticking a criterion recomputes the totals without moving the columns.
  4. When a page does not say, we say so. “Not stated on the product page” means exactly that, not “no”.
  5. No accuracy claims. Every company calls its test accurate. We have no independent accuracy data, so we report what each test reads and screens and leave accuracy claims out.
  6. No affiliate links, no testimonials, no invented editorial team. The site is written and maintained by its owner, named on the about page.

Scoring rules (method dated 2026-10-09)

Each criterion is worth 0, 1 or 2 points, 16 in all. Every rule reads one cell of the side-by-side table and nothing else, so anyone can recompute the scorecard by hand. The criteria and the thresholds were chosen by the site's owner, who sells ProsperK9; that is a judgement, and the scorecard lets readers switch any criterion off. Changing a rule means changing this page and its date.

  1. Price on the product page. Under $100: 2 points. $100 to $139.99: 1 point. $140 or more: 0. Sale prices count; member or coupon prices do not.
  2. Shipping. Free in the US both ways: 2 points. Otherwise 0.
  3. Results time. Upper end of the quoted range. 3 weeks or less: 2 points. 4 weeks: 1 point. Longer: 0.
  4. Breeds in the reference. As the company states it. 400 or more: 2 points. 300 to 399: 1 point. Fewer: 0.
  5. Inherited conditions screened. As the company states it. 400 or more: 2 points. 250 to 399: 1 point. Fewer: 0.
  6. Re-analysed as science improves. Free re-analysis for the life of the dog stated on the product page: 2 points. Not offered or not stated: 0.
  7. After the report. Records kept with the result, follow-up questions and a vet summary all stated: 2 points. One follow-up (for example a consult) stated: 1 point. Nothing stated: 0.
  8. Microbiome. Oral microbiome from the same swab, included: 2 points. Any microbiome test sold separately: 1 point. None: 0.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong or out of date, the fastest fix is to tell us which page shows a different number. The table is updated and re-dated as a whole, never one cell at a time.
